Dear Mayor and City Council,
I read with interest the City's request for input regarding the redevelopment of the main
street area along the Riverfront. As I have stated before, I feel that area is the most
important piece of real estate the City owns.
While certainly resident boaters deserve access to the water using the city's boat ramps,
this area is just not the appropriate spot. Some time ago a study was completed that
showed that the majority of the boat owners who used the main street boat ramp were
actually from out of town. Fortunately, much of that situation will be alleviated when the
new boat ramp in Grant is completed sometime in the very near future. I am enclosing a
copy of an article that appeared in the Press Journal that details this much needed
improvement in the County north of us. This new ramp, with its proximity to the inlet,
will free up the need for the main street ramp.
I would urge that the Mayor and City Council use that beautiful piece of property for
something other than parking cars and trailers from sun up to sunset for people who
normally do not visit the Riverfront.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Thomas H. Collins,
President
