SUBJECT: Water Outage at Barber Street & Units 12, 14, & 15
While Treasure Coast Contracting was installing a water service for 1426 Barber Street, the
backhoe operator hit the existing corporation stop (service valve) on the main for 1427
Barber Street and broke it off at the threads. The tapping saddle had to be removed and
replaced. Tom Stirtzinger called me at the office around 11:40 a.m, and explained the
problem. I called Pat at Treasure Coast Contracting to find out approximately how long the
12" main would have to be shut down. I was told about 30 to 40 minutes would be needed
to restore service.
I called Food Lion, Sebastian Elementary School, Guiseppes Italian Restaurant, the
GutierreZs (Dentists), and Paradise Hair Salon all along CR512 to explain the situation; then
left to go to the site.
Tom shut down the gate valves on the 12" PVC main at 12:30 p.m. The saddle for the
broken service line was removed. Water continuously came out of the 1" hole where the
existing main had been tapped. Therefore, no contaminated water ever entered the main.
A new saddle & corporation stop was installed. Service was restored at 12:55 p.m.
Note: The water main was J -M Blue Brute PVC pipe, 5 feet
east of the east edge of pavement of Barber Street.
