Establishing the Indian River County Consortium for
Life Science Research and Technology Advancement
Whereas, a regional vision for technology, education, and innovation to
enhance productivity and economic sustainability and achieve a superior quality of
life for all of our citizens; and
Whereas, to be successful in such an endeavor a collaboration among
governments, businesses, and academia is critical; and
Whereas, regions, as declared by the U.S. Department of Commerce, are
defined by economic, rather than political boundaries; and are the building blocks of
prosperity requiring synergistic relationships; and
Whereas, that economic competition is global, a commitment to creating a
world class infrastructure and environment must be evident and continually
stimulated.
Now, therefore, be it agreed to by those entities represented
below, that The Indian River County Consortium for Life Science Research and
Technology Advancement is hereby formed. Further, the mission of the Indian River
County Consortium for Life Science Research and Technology Advancement shall
I. Promote and support the growth of existing key and emerging economic sectors;
and
II. Provide legislative and governmental policies to support economic development;
and
III. Make available physical infrastructure to support development, manufacturing;
and commercialization of products; and
IV. Provide and support emerging technologies; and
V. Leverage our current K-12 schools with a focus on enhancing the STEM (Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum related foundation for
education; and
VI. Create a profusion of higher education opportunities within the targeted sectors
to enhance our competitive opportunities; and
VII. Provide entrepreneurial, management expertise, awell-trained, skilled,
educated workforce; and
VIII. Foster a synergy and interaction of venture capital, legal, scientists,
entrepreneurs, and financers to create product development; and
IX. Identify and increase investments needed to enhance a competitive advantage;
and
X. Provide the awareness, advocacy, and expressed will of stakeholders to support
economic development.

COMMUNITY LEADERS SUPPORT AGREEMENT
VERO BEACH, FL, August 14, 2009 - The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce
has announced that a coalition of 15 community organizations are in support of a
vision for technology, education, and innovation to enhance economic sustainability and
quality of life for the residents of Indian River County.
"This cross-section of public and private sector leaders from Indian River County is
responsive and dedicated to the mission that the local economy should be diverse and
welcoming to existing and emerging businesses" stated C. William Curtis, Jr. Chairman
of the Chamber Board of Directors.
The agreement expresses the commitment of county governments, educators and
private organizations who believe working together to promote Indian River County will
bring more resources and support to the table. "The groups represented in this
agreement have taken part in the Chamber's Community Leaders Summits and support
Community Leaders economic development initiatives" stated Curtis. "Initiatives that
have come forth from Community Leaders clearly demonstrate a broad based
consensus that better paying jobs are important to our residents and our tax base. It will
take all of us working together to create a diverse and sustainable employment base"
he said.

Championing this agreement supports "A Healthy Indian River Count)!' which was the
first initiative identified at the initial Community Leaders Summit.
"At this time it is critical to have the support of across-section of organizations who
support economic initiatives and who are willing to work in collaboration with one
another to provide for jobs and a tax base that will sustain the life of this county" Curtis
said.
The Indian River County Chamber of Commerce is a 4-star Accredited Chamber
representing the business community by providing services, benefits and leadership for
positive growth and change.
